Waste bin, comprising a container, in which waste, such as domestic waste, can be held, a cover (3) and compressing means (6-9) for compressing the waste inside the container which are displaceable between a nominal position and a compression position, the compressing means (6-9) in the latter being moved inwards with respect to the nominal position, for compressing waste which is inside the container, characterized in that the compressing means (6-9) comprise a part of the container which can be moved at least transversely to the longitudinal axis of the waste bin.
