Résumé dans la langue de publication The present invention provides a process for purifying tall oil sterols from tall oil neutral ingredients, the process comprising the steps of: (a) contacting tall oil neutral ingredients with at least one solvent selected from the group consisting of methanol, hydrous methanol, hydrous ethanol, hydrous isopropanol and hydrous n-propanol, at a temperature above the boiling point under atmospheric pressure of the solvent, (b) removing insolubles which do not disssolve in the solvent from the mixture thus obtained, (c) crystallizing tall oil sterols from the solution thus obtained and collecting the crystals by filtration. According to the process of the invention, high-purity tall oil sterols can be easily obtained from tall oil neutral ingredients.
